Sheyla Gutierrez, CPDT-KA
Sheyla Gutiérrez is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico who offers a wide variety of dog training services including puppy & house training, obedience & manners, rally, agility and behavior modification for dogs with aggression problems, separation anxiety and other behavior issues.
She is an active member of various canine organizations, including Therapy Dogs Inc., Professional Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and Caribe Kennel Club. In addition, she is a tester for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program and an AKC Agility judge. As of recent, Sheyla is also actively involved as a service dog puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence.
Sheyla has been training with her dogs in Obedience and Agility since she first adopted her Labrador Retriever Zohé. She loves reading and learning and enjoys sharing her knowledge with new owners to help them learn how to properly communicate with their dogs. Sheyla feels training should be fun for both dog and handler, and of course humane. She believes that one can teach a dog to do wonderful things simply with proper reinforcement techniques. Therefore, there is no need to force them to do anything they themselves do not want, or are not ready to do.
Most of Sheyla’s dogs have been rescues, but through happy and loving training using positive reinforcement methods, they have overcome many of their fears and traumas and even earned advanced obedience and agility titles.
Throughout her career, Sheyla has given many different demonstrations, workshops and seminars, visited schools, camps and hospitals, represented the island at national events and has made several appearances on local and national television.
She currently resides and offers training services in Palm Bay, FL.
